If you’re trying to cleanse your system, curb an eating habit, maybe even cut down on over-processed foods, or lose some pounds, a fruit detox can be an effective plan to consider.

Wondering what detox plans are available to choose from?  Let Qilo guide you through your first/next fruit detox!

What Is A Fruit Detox Plan?

A fruit detox plan is a diet plan that primarily consists of fruits.  It might also include some vegetables (like avocados, tomatoes, etc) and nuts, but this is a restrictive vegan diet that completely excludes grains, all animal proteins, and dairy. It’s rich in antioxidants, nutrients & vitamins that your body requires to function, and can be a mix of two or more fruits.

Are Fruit Detox Plans Safe?

An increase in your fruit intake can be very beneficial for the body. However, it’s important to note that a fruit-based detox plan should never be a long-term lifestyle/diet plan.

Nutritionists agree that a fruit diet is highly restrictive and far from a balanced meal, so don’t mistake it for one. A healthy diet requires a mix of fruits and other types of food if you’re trying to get all the nutrients your body needs.

Fruit Detox Plans

When picking out a Fruit Detox Plan that matches your end-goal — in this case, weight loss — it’s important to choose fruits that are low in sugar and calories. We’ve broken these Fruit Detox options into two categories:

1. Blended Fruits Detox Plan

This fruit detox plan can either be in the form of a smoothie/juice, or a fruit-infused water. Here’s some of our favourites for weight loss:

  • Cucumber Lemon Detox Juice

Cucumber and Lemon have been proven to boost metabolism, leave a sense of fullness & decrease the urge to eat more (which aids weight loss).  To make this Detox drink, you’d need 1 cup of sliced watermelon, ½ cup of sliced cucumber, ½ cup of juiced lime and ¾ cup of water. Simply blend these together until smooth, and then serve!

  • Orange, Carrot & Lemon Detox Drink

From burning fat, to flushing out toxins and boosting the immune system, this detox drink is loaded with antioxidants!

For this recipe, you’d need 1 large peeled orange, 1 cup of chopped carrots, ¼ cup of lemon juice, and if you’re looking to include an extra ingredient, 1 piece of ginger (about 1 inch).  Pour your carrots, orange, diced ginger and your lemon juice into a juicer and blend until smooth. When ready, pour into a glass with some ice and enjoy!

  • Coconut, Banana & Ginger Smoothie

For a detox drink that’s good for your digestive system,  great for detoxifying, packed with vitamins, and a delicious energy-giver?

This Coconut, Banana & Ginger smoothie is it!

To prepare this, you’d need 1 medium-sized banana (sliced), 1 tablespoon of shredded coconut, 1 cup of soy or nut milk, 1 tablespoon of minced ginger & 2-4 ice cubes (depending on the consistency you’re going for). Place your ingredients in the juicer and blend until smooth, and it’s ready!

2. Whole Fruits Detox Plans

If you like your fruits whole rather than juiced (in form of salads, for example), here are some options to consider:

  • Watermelon & Lime diet

Watermelon on its own is a great choice for a fruit detox plan. If you’re particular about going on a fruit detox plan that really fills you up (watermelon is about 90% water!), while also helping you lose weight, reduce bloating & cleanse the system, here’s one!

Watermelon and Lime Juice is easy to prepare, very hydrating and low in calories!  You’d need some fresh lime juice, and 1 ripe watermelon. Simply chop your watermelon into bits, pour in your lime juice (you can include a bit of honey if you like as a topping) and you’re done!

  • Mixed Fruit Salad

A low calorie fruit salad that tastes amazing, cleanses your system and keeps your calorie intake low?  We’d got the perfect fruit salad recipe! For this fruit detox plan, you’d need 1 cup of halved strawberries, 1 cup of chopped watermelon, 1 cup of chopped peach, 1 cup of chopped kiwi, 1 cup of blueberries, 1 cup of raspberries and 1 cup of grapes.  If you’d like some fruit salad dressing, you’d need some freshly squeezed orange juice and 1 teaspoon of honey.

Mix your whole fruits in a bowl, pour your honey and orange juice over it, and it’s ready to be served!
